Positive Points
I find the interactive audio lesson format good fun. It is similar to the Pimsleur courses in format, I enjoyed Pimsleur as well but found it could be a bit over formal, where as Rocket teaches more informal everyday language.
Another plus over Pimsleur is that you get the pdf transcriptions of the lessons and pdf grammar lessons. The software games are a nice bonus as well, the verb training game is particularly useful I think.
Negative Points
Due to the friendly informal nature of Rocket I’d say Pimsleur is probably better if you are learning Spanish for business, but for travel or socialising Rocket is better.
Also their marketing text is a bit over the top. My progress with this was good but you will not be speaking fluently in 6 weeks or whatever the claim is – thats imposible!
The Verdict
All in all I enjoyed the course and found I progressed further than I did with the Pimsleur course, probably because of the additional grammar pdfs and learning games. When you compare the prices Rocket is very good value – or maybe Pimsleur is just particularly bad value?! Anyway, I’d recommend Rocket as a fun and pretty quick way of getting into Spanish.
